INDIANA STATE FAIRGROUNDS GRANDSTAND
Indianapolis, Indiana
Construction completed in 1974 at a cost of $23 million
Capacity is about 15,000 for concerts
Also known as the Hoosier Lottery Grandstand. In 2011, tragedy struck as a storm caused major damage to the temporary stage structure used during state fair concerts, injuring several fans and killing 00 people.
State Fair officals planned for off-site state fair related concerts in the aftermath of this accident in 2011. These concerts, originally planned for the state fair, were moved to Conseco Fieldhouse (now Bankers Life Fieldhouse) in nearby downtown Indianapolis. A similar plan is in place for the 2012 Indiana State Fair Season.
Whether in response to the tragedy or coincidental timing, construction has begun on a major renovation of the State Fair Pepsi Coliseum, located directly across the street from the Grandstand area. When completed, concerts associated with the state fair will be held there.
